Damocles is a character who appears in an anecdote commonly referred to as "the Sword of Damocles", an allusion to the imminent and ever-present peril faced by those in positions of power. If you say that someone has the Sword of Damocles hanging over their head, you mean that they are in a situation in which something very bad could happen to them at any time.
One Thousand and One Nights (Arabic: أَلْفُ لَيْلَةٍ وَلَيْلَةٌ‎, ʾAlf Laylah wa-Laylah) is a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales compiled in Arabic during theIslamic golden Age. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English-language edition. What is common to all the editions of the Nights is the initial frame story of the ruler Shariyar and his wife Scheherazade and the framing device incorporated throughout the tales themselves.
